How To Introduce Your New Skincare Products To Your Routine

We are just as excited for you to start your new routine as you are. Because, we know all too well how exciting having clear skin can be! Before you dive in, we want to share with you some helpful tips on how to start.

It has been said that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and we believe that holds true for your new journey towards healthier skin. The most important step you can take right now is to slowly introduce any products with active ingredients. By doing this, you will reduce potential irritation, allowing you to maximize the effectiveness of your skincare products that are targeting your specific skin concerns.

How do I slowly incorporate my active ingredient products? Whether you are a practiced skincare professional, or a skincare routine rookie, we recommend starting your new products as follows:

When you introduce Night Repair (retinol serum) do so only two to three nights per week, and be sure to alternate nights. It is normal to have some redness and flaking when starting out with Retinol. The best thing to do is continue with your Night Repair Serum in routine and use our Hydrate Serum to help with the redness as well as provide hydration to your dry skin. Be sure that you are not using your retinol serum on the same nights as Exfoliating Toner Pads! These two products in combination with one another can dry out your skin and cause unwanted irritation. Instead, use the Exfoliating Toner Pads on the opposite nights as your Night Repair. Helpful tip, always remember to wear your SPF the morning after you have used retinol! Retinol works by bringing healthy, fresh skin to the surface which will make your skin more sensitive to the sun and be more likely to burn!

Oh the holy grail of skincare brightening, skin health and healing! We love our Brightening Serum (Vitamin C) and the many benefits it brings to your skin. To help activate all the glory within, shake your new Brightening Serum well before opening. Even with all its greatness, we recommend you perform a small patch test first! To do this, you will take a few drops and apply them to one small area of your cheek. Continue the rest of your routine as normal. If you do not notice any redness or irritation, you can start using your Brightening Serum 3x per week in the morning, but be sure not to forget, alternate days! If your skin tolerates this usage well, you can increase your frequency by one day, every two weeks. Your goal should be to use your Brightening Serum every morning! If you are an old Vitamin C pro, you can work your way up to use your Brightening Serum twice a day for 2x the benefits!

If your skin feels sensitive to Brightening Serum after the patch test, we recommend performing the patch test again but applying our Hydrate Serum first. By applying the Hydrate Serum first, it can act as a buffer which can help minimize any irritation. If after your second patch test your skin continues to feel sensitive to your new Brightening Serum, we recommend using an alternative, slow release Vitamin C instead!

Our favorite at home mini facial that makes you look like a smooth, glazed donut in the morning, the Exfoliating Toner Pads! These pads are amazing, along with their potency, so make sure you start slow! We recommend you start using your Exfoliating Pads only one time per week, and to make sure it is on a different night from your Night Repair Serum.  It is normal to experience some minor tingling and redness immediately after your first few applications. Once your skin tolerates these pads well for three weeks, increase your frequency of use by one night. We recommend maximum use of only three nights per week with these pads!

The go pad for your morning (or evening) routine, Clarifying Complexion Pads! We formulated these pads to contain three key ingredients: glycolic acid (AHA), salicylic acid (BHA), and lactic acid. Glycolic acid works by removing the surface layer of dead skin cells to make your skin appear more smooth and even. Salicylic acid works by unclogging pores, which will help promote cellular turnover. Finally lactic acid, an ingredient which helps to keep the skin hydrated! Start slow by only using these pads two to three times per week, being sure to alternate days. You may increase or decrease frequency, depending on how your skin tolerates! If your skin feels red and tight, try cutting back to only use a few days a week or add Hydrate Serum to hydrate your skin. If you have more oily prone skin, these pads may potentially be used up to twice daily. However, if you have dry, or mature skin- we recommend one to three times per week.

Most important thing to keep in mind is to listen to your skin! We all tolerate our active ingredient products differently. That is what makes us all unique! If your skin feels tight, dry, and irritated - give your skin a break and decrease the frequency of use from your active ingredients, and use your Hydrate Serum twice daily to repair your skin barrier. Do not forget, it is ok to give your skin the break it deserves at times!
